Camp Descriptions
Youth Horse Camps
Our youth camps are perfect for the beginner rider and is designed for riders ages 4 to 12.
In beginning camps, riders learn basic to advanced-beginner skills in addition to grooming, tacking and bathing a horse; horse behavior and safety; colors, breeds, markings and anatomy; parts of the saddle and bridle; riding bareback; games on horseback and stable chores.
Each rider experiences one full hour of riding each day, a total of five hours in saddle a week. Camp is from 8 am to noon, Monday through Thursday. On Friday camp is from 8 am to 2 pm and includes a swimming, pizza and ice cream party.
Advanced Camps
Our gymkhana clinics are perfect for the rider who is already actively riding and can sufficiently walk/trot/canter and tack up independently. If your child wants to participate in a gymkhana clinic and isn't currently taking lessons at SHEC, we require the student to take a $25 evaluation lesson.
Riders learn advanced riding skills, including all 13 gymkhana patterns, flat work exercises, bareback riding and length strengthening exercises. Riders also learn equine first aid, how to correctly wrap legs, equine nutrition, natural horsemanship, farrier care and much more. Trailer-ins are welcome and can board for the week.
Riders spend 2 hours riding each day. Camp is from 8 am to noon, Monday through Thursday. On Friday, camp is from 8 am to 2 pm and includes a swimming, pizza and ice cream party.
Adult Camps
Our adult camp is perfect for the non-competitive adult who wants to hang out with horses and friends, get away from kids and work for a few hours and have some fun. Riders need to know how to walk and jog, with some loping experience, and must be able to tack up their horse.
Riders learn skills across a number of disciplines, including western equitation, western dressage, trail riding exercises, gymkhana and riding games such as musical stalls.
Riders spend 1.5 - 2 hours riding each day. Camp is Monday - Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Riders can participate in our rodeo and get 50 percent off of rodeo fees. Or, you can relax with a cocktail and taco and watch the rodeo. Water and cocktails are included with the total cost of adult camp. You can use your own horse or a ranch horse for the camp and the rodeo. Space is limited to 8 riders.
